Will County Legal Assistance
Program, Inc.
The Will County Legal Assistance
Program, Inc. (WCLAP)
is a not-for-
profit provider of legal services to low income
and indigent residents of Will County.  Since
1973 WCLAP has been dedicated to providing
quality legal services to over 2500 people per
year.
WCLAP staff includes four attorneys as well
as a senior citizen paralegal advocate who is
solely devoted to the legal needs of Will County's
seniors.
   WCLAP PROVIDES
civil legal assistance in
several areas of law including but not limited to:

Domestic Violence
       Family
       Consumer
       Housing
       Public Benefits
       Senior Citizens

WCLAP SERVES U.S. citizens and documented
individuals (with special exceptions in domestic
violence cases) who are residents of Will County,
and fall within certain income limits that are based
upon federal poverty guidelines.
Services are provided to qualifying applicants free of charge.  Once accepted, clients are
responsible for participating in their own legal representation and cooperating with
WCLAP attorneys.
This cooperation ensures the most equitable use of WCLAP resources and
allows attorneys to assist a greater number of clients.

The program cannot assist persons who are already represented in the matter for which
they seek assistance or to those who are otherwise entitled to representation by the services of a
court appointed attorney or a public defender. Also, fee generating or contingent fee cases are
not accepted by WCLAP.
Since the resources and staff of WCLAP are limited, not every legal problem of an eligible client
can be addressed or remedied.  Certain matters receive priority consideration.
Priority matters
involve basic human needs such as food, shelter and physical safety.
Even in situations where formal representation is not possible, valuable advice and an
appropriate referral may be provided.

Financially eligible applicants who cannot be directly assisted by the program
may be assisted by members of the private bar on a volunteer or pro bono
basis.  (You must be a client of WCLAP befor being referred to the Pro
Bono Project.) The response of members of the Will County Bar
Association to the calling of the program's
"Pro Bono Project" has been
exceptional and many additional clients have been provided with needed
legal assistance.
